What is Pilates?

Pilates is a series of exercises that strengthen the core, improve posture and muscular alignment. The main principals of Pilates are: concentration, control, centering, flow (efficiency of movement) precision, breathing. Pilates was designed by Joseph Pilates, a German physical-culturist. During the first half of the 20th century, he developed a system of exercises which were intended to strengthen the human mind and body. Pilates believed that mental and physical health are interrelated.

What is Spa-Style Pilates?

Our signature private session: A  35-minute apparatus equipment session using a proprietary series of choreographed exercises for stretching and energizing the body. Followed by a 15 minute moist heat therapy, Thai Yoga manual stretching and a meditative shivasana

What is Silver Fox Barre?

A semi-private group class featuring ballet for the mature body.  A classic ballet barre warm-up with emphasis on foot strength, postural basics and gentle counterbalances. Learn the basic building blocks of ballet to improve posture, strength and muscular alignment.

Your Instructor

Rachael Maddalena

Rachael Maddalena is a thoughtful and experienced teacher who has a background in European Dance Theater, Pilates and Thai Yoga. She was certified in Pilates technique and dance conditioning from Orange Coast College, and holds a mat certification from Infinite Dynamics Pilates and Gyrotonic Studio. Rachael was mentored under Danish Physical therapist, Caroline Darville, and Rochelle Carson-Begley, a colleague of Moira Merrithew. She is well-versed in both athletic-training and injury-recovery techniques based on the Pilates method. Rachael has studied Thai Holistic Bodywork at the Ayodha Center, and The Bamboo Garden School of Massage and has been on the summer faculty of the Pasadena Civic Ballet, and the Pasadena Dance Theater. As a product designer and entrepreneur she has developed a line of self-care products she uses in her workshops.  She is currently developing a series of workshops that use basic meditation techniques to establish a pathway to a self  caring movement discipline.   Rachael has been featured in Pilates Pro Magazine, and published in Balanced Body’s Pilates Quarterly. Semi-Private Group Class

Fridays at 9:00 a.m. $18
A semi-private group class featuring ballet for the mature body. A classic ballet barre warm-up with emphasis on foot strength, postural basics and gentle counterbalances. Learn the basic building blocks of ballet to improve posture, strength and muscular alignment. 

Body Care 101, Beginning Again:

This is a  workshop that meets for 4 consecutive days:
11:30 to 1:00 or
5:30 to 6:30-45 

For the de-conditioned body; Gentle Body Rolling, heat therapy, basics of postural muscle activation, foot therapy and an at home dry body brushing tutorial. Intended to stimulate and encourage the mind-body connection.  This class is an achievable first step toward enjoying a more active lifestyle.  A set of Rachael’s Originals Dry Body Brush Sets, a Foot Therapy Kit, and a Classic Hot Water Bottle with a quilted cotton case.

Private Classic or Spa Style Pilates

Spa Style: Our signature Private session: A  35-minute apparatus equipment session using a proprietary series of choreographed exercises for stretching and energizing the body. Followed by a 15 minute moist heat therapy, Thai Yoga manual stretching and a meditative shivasana

Classic:  55-minute classic style Pilates routine using the reformer, wunda chair, spine corrector, and trapeze table. We go through a classic physical routine emphasize concentration, control, centering, flow (efficiency of movement) precision, breathing.  5 – minute rest (corpse pose) using myofacial release balls to end.

I Love Dogs & Yoga 

This is a special outdoors workshop that meets in the park.  We walk our dogs and learn how to keep healthy body alignment while leading. We also learn some exercises to compliment dog walking.  Learn how to: do squats with leash, let your dog help your balance, and some great standing yoga poses you can do everyday to build strength while walking your best friend.
